What is creatine?

Creatine is a natural compound your body uses to produce quick energy for short, intense effort such as lifting and sprinting. It is built from amino acids in the liver, kidneys and pancreas, stored mainly in skeletal muscle, and also eaten in foods such as red meat and fish. How does creatine work?

Where does creatine come from?

Creatine comes from two sources: your own body and your diet. Your liver, kidneys and pancreas make creatine from the amino acids arginine, glycine and methionine.

You also get it from animal foods, mainly red meat and fish, because plant foods contain almost none.
